Synopsis: Travelogue covering the country of castles, mountains, valleys, salmon and trout streams and singers.Synopsis: Wales - the country and its role in Great Britain. The film describes Wales as a key source of primary materials. It celebrates the mining of coal and slate, and the rearing of sheep. The rugged beauty of the country is celebrated as a place where man can battle against the elements. The film also centres on the Welsh people, emphasising their pride of language, the importance of community and the fact that Britain depends on Wales for its workforce. Modern Wales is illustrated in the achievements of the national university and the development of a new manufacturing industry. It closes with shots of the wild countryside and powerful Welsh singing.Synopsis: A wartime propaganda film focusing on Wales, ‘Cymru’ uses cuts from similar films to paint a morale boosting picture of a nation considered to be a vital cog in Britain’s ‘total war’ machinery. It takes the audience on a journey from coal mines deep in the Welsh valleys to the munitions factory floor, the viewer is left in no doubt of the Welsh people’s great endeavour.
